FDA peptide review scheduled for July
The FDA has a Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee meeting scheduled for July 23–24, 2026, and several peptide-related bulk drug substances are listed on the agenda.
The July 23 agenda includes discussion around:
BPC-157-related bulk drug substances
KPV-related bulk drug substances
TB-500-related bulk drug substances
MOTS-C-related bulk drug substances
The July 24 agenda includes discussion around:
Emideltide / DSIP-related bulk drug substances
Semax-related bulk drug substances
Epitalon-related bulk drug substances
This does not mean these compounds are FDA-approved. It also does not mean the meeting automatically changes the status of every research product in the market.
What it does show is that peptide-related substances remain an active area of regulatory review, especially when they overlap with compounding, sourcing standards, supplier documentation, safety discussions, and claims being made in the marketplace.
Why this matters
The peptide space has expanded quickly. Compound names that used to mostly appear in research settings are now showing up across a much wider range of places: academic literature, compounding-policy discussions, wellness marketing, ecommerce sites, and regulatory enforcement conversations.
That mix can create confusion.
For research buyers and suppliers, the important distinction is between compounds supplied for legitimate laboratory research and products marketed for consumer use. That line matters, and it is one reason clear RUO labeling, responsible product descriptions, and documentation standards are becoming more important across the space.
For GEL Labs, this reinforces the direction we are taking: cleaner research-use-only language, clearer product pages, better restock visibility, and a stronger focus on documentation and transparency.
What to watch next
The July meeting will be worth following closely. A few things to watch:
Whether the committee makes recommendations related to the 503A Bulks List
How the FDA frames safety, quality, and evidence concerns
Whether different peptide-related substances are discussed differently based on available data
Whether the meeting leads to greater scrutiny of ecommerce sellers making use-based or therapeutic claims
Whether research buyers become more focused on supplier quality, labeling, and documentation afterward

MOTS-C trial watch: mitochondrial-derived peptides stay in focus.
MOTS-C continues to be one of the more interesting mitochondrial-derived peptides being followed in metabolic research.

A Phase 2a study is currently listed for investigational MOTS-C. The study is evaluating whether 12 weeks of investigational MOTS-C improves insulin sensitivity compared with placebo in adults with prediabetes and overweight/obesity. Participants are randomized 1:1 to MOTS-C or placebo, receive standardized lifestyle counseling, and are followed for safety through Week 16.
That does not make MOTS-C an approved product, and it does not establish use guidance. But it does show that MOTS-C is still drawing structured research attention.
Why MOTS-C is interesting in research
MOTS-C is commonly discussed as a mitochondrial-derived peptide, which makes it different from many peptides that are mainly discussed through one receptor or one narrow pathway.
Research interest around MOTS-C often centers on:
mitochondrial signaling
metabolic stress-response models
glucose and insulin-sensitivity markers
skeletal muscle as a target tissue
AMPK-related pathway research
nuclear-mitochondrial communication

What makes this trial worth watching
